NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health Overview
About the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health Qualification
The NEBOSH Construction Certificate is a qualification both for those with construction management responsibilities and for those who are required to provide routine, day-to-day advice on health, safety and welfare in construction work.
The NEBOSH Construction programmed of study broadly mirrors that of the NEBOSH National General Certificate. However, due to the specific nature of the award, the opportunity arises to cover key construction issues in rather more technical detail than would be appropriate for a general health and safety NEBOSH award.
The NEBOSH Construction Certificate therefore contains additional units and requires a slightly longer programmed of study than its counterpart. It is thus designed to cover general health and safety issues within a construction context as well as placing emphasis on the specific construction issues that make the industry amongst the most dangerous in which to work.
Candidates who have successfully completed the NEBOSH NGC1 paper within the past 5 years are exempt from re-sitting that paper again to gain this NEBOSH qualification.
No previous health and safety knowledge is required but students must be able to write short reports.

NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health Overview
About the NEBOSH International Certificate Qualification
The NEBOSH International General Certificate has been recognised for many years in the UK as the basis for a sound, broad introduction to the fundamentals of occupational health and safety. The key difference between the NEBOSH National Certificate and the NEBOSH International Certificate is in the applicability of legal requirements. While health and safety in the UK is underpinned by an established and well-structured set of legislative requirements, which cannot be excluded from a national award, this is less relevant in an international context. The NEBOSH International General Certificate syllabus therefore omits specific reference to any national legal requirements but, instead, focuses on international health and safety standards, in particular ILO codes of practice. In common with the NEBOSH national award, however, the NEBOSH syllabus is structured according to a recognized management framework.
The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been designed for managers, supervisors, worker representatives and others who require a basic knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices. It provides an appropriate breadth of knowledge for non-specialists in occupational health and safety to enable them to discharge more effectively their organisational duties or functions with respect to workplace health and safety. Candidates are likely to be employees of large organisations operating outside the UK, or of multinational companies already working to international health and safety standards but needing to adapt these to accord with local needs and health and safety practice.
No previous health and safety knowledge is required but students must be able to write short reports.
